General Information
Attire: Loose-fitting shirt and pants, comfortable shoes.
Cost: Fees are payable for the entire session based on $5.00 per hour, subject to change.
Courses: Presently offered are: Dr. Lam’s Tai Chi for Arthritis, Master Zeng’s Six Forms Taiji Qiqong, and International Eight Forms Taijiquan.
Etiquette: Respect yourself, respect others, respect the instructor, and respect the training facility.
Free Practices: Offered to registered students throughout the summer on appropriate open green spaces.
Group Classes: On-going. Sessions are 8 weeks long and are offered year round.
Levels: Beginner Level and Continuing Levels.
New Students: Accepted at the beginning of each session.
Practice: Encouraged and expected.
Punctuality: Arrive in class safely is more important than arriving on time.
Tea: Students and instructor partake in Chinese tea ceremony once a year.
Workshops: Available on request.
Tai Chi movements are done slowly for the following reasons:
1) to master the circular motion
2) to distinguish the yin and yang elements
3) to examine the movements and observe effects on the body
4) to develop continuity
5) to maintain normal breathing patterns
6) to help the body relax and develop proper muscle contraction
7) to eliminate the waste of excess energy
8) to emphasize the importance of whole body movements
9) to cultivate temperament
